So you are starting a new business or have gotten to the point where you want to grow your company because business is going well, but you don’t know who to trust or where to look. We are going to cover three things you need to know when choosing the right marketing agency. Choosing the right marketing agency can be very profitable for your business or cause you a lot of headaches and lost opportunities if you choose incorrectly.
The best way to choose a company is to get a referral from another business owner who used the other company’s service, but a lot of times that isn’t possible. Our goal is to help you make an educated decision when choosing for your business by outlining three things you need to know when choosing the right marketing agency.
1. Do they practice what they preach?
When you’re trying to find the right agency it is most certainly important to look at the type of work they have completed before asking them to do it for you. This almost seems obvious, but you would be surprised by the amount of business owners that start working with companies before ever looking to see if the quality of work matches up. For example, if you were searching for someone to help you with social media advertising on Facebook, you would want them to show you screenshots of campaigns and numbers that they had previously achieved, like this. One other example that is something we are very strict on is companies that advocate for social media, etc. but have either A not posted in 2 weeks or more or B only share blogs and articles from other companies. You MUST create unique and original content online to win in social media, there are no shortcuts. You need to find a company that offers a unique and creative approach so that your company stands out.
2. How long have they been around?
How long you have been in business is a factor that companies cannot help, they can’t speed up time. But the amount of time they have been around is a valid reason to consider working with someone. If they have been around a few years and have real work to show, more than likely they aren’t going to be “testing” a lot of new practices with your business. The last thing you want is for someone to try a bunch of new things to see if it sticks with your marketing dollars. Now, there isn’t a magic number of years to be in business that you should look at, but when looking at the company, check out their website or do a little research and see how long they have been around. One exception to this is experience at another company, so just make sure to ask.
3. Is the agency producing work in-house or outsourcing?
Understanding how the company produces the work is a very important factor to consider. There are benefits to both sides, but we do prefer to choose companies that create in-house. Outsourcing to companies like UpWork in some cases offer lower costs and potentially faster delivery. But when you have someone who creates the work in-house you have quality control and you know the type of work you will receive each time you make a request. In-house marketing is able to work directly with you and sometimes offer a more hands on approach. Outsourcing may not always be the same designer or advertiser, so duplicating results or designs in the future may be harder. This factor is a decision you need to make in your business, but ultimately it is a factor and one to consider on which is best suited for your company.
We believe that if you put these three factors in practice when choosing the right marketing agency for your company, you will have a better experience and ultimately better results that can really help your business grow.
